Work of the Week - Term 4 Week 7

Ok, so technically this work was done in week 6 but it was so good I had to post it at some point. In Maths Room 3 have been collaborating to solve problems and present their research and strategies in Google Drawings. Others schools in the Ako Hiko cluster are trying this too. Here is an example thanks to Analese, Sabrina and Mele.

Work of the Week - Term 4 Week 5

Well this week how could I pick anything but our amazing day on Tiritiri Matangi! I was so impressed with how much the students remembered from our work in class. We also had some expert bird spotters. Can anyone remember all the different birds we saw?

Work of the Week - Term 4 Week 4

Every Friday we do speed writing. We use a random starter to practise doing as much writing as we can in 10 minutes. Then we edit our work while working on our writing goals. This is Angelina's speed writing for the term:

Work of the Week - Term 4 Week 3

Now that we are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school we decided to make some videos to remind students how to be respectful and responsible. We looked at how to use positive language to show respect. Kezline, Christina and Mele made this video:

Work of the Week Term 4 Week 2

Work of the Week this week is shared between everyone in Room 3 for their Genius Hour work. I can't wait to see how these amazing students will use their strengths to make a real difference in our community. For example, Alisi is using her Chromebook and designing skills to try and stop students from eating junk food:

Work of the Week - Term 3 Week 4

I chose to post Lotu, Elijah and Alipate speaking to the school because they independently saw a problem and worked out a way to solve it (by speaking to the whole school at assembly). They explained that all of the Kea team are mediators not just the students in jackets. So any member of the Kea team can help you to solve your problems at playtime!

RUGBY (finally!)

After weeks of rain our open weight team finally got to show us what they can do with the added bonus of having the whole school watch!

Final score Wesley 5 - 2 Dominion Road but more importantly an amazing chance to show great sportsmanship and work as a team.

Work of the Week - Week 8

This week's work isn't finished or edited yet but I love it because Mele has used what she has learnt during her explanation writing in a reading task. I also think the way she talks to the audience is great, it really makes me want to read her work. Great job Mele!

Adidas Fun Run

Whooshh!
I ran right through the inflatable arch with excitement trying my best to get past the person in front of me.I ran like I was chasing my prey and the person at the back of me was my predator.

I was jogging it so that I wouldn’t lose my energy and so that I won’t pass out.I went forward and ran down the hill past the drink station ran past the goal post around the court and ran straight past the cones turned right jumped into the round circular shaped hula hoops and ran straight back to the start.

I could feel the wet sweat coming down my face and it tickled me to death so I wiped it off curiously.I ran again and again and again 7 times it was soooo tiring. When we were done we all took pictures near the arch and we were posing in different ways.Later on we went back to class and we ate lunch.

By Hingano

Sweat Drips running down my forehead,Puffing and puffing! I ran to the finish line! FINALLY IT'S OVER! The Adidas Fun run was really really fun!(No wonder it’s called the fun run). But at the same time it was the most tiring thing I have ever done.I don’t even know how many laps I did but it felt like 50!My favourite bit was encouraging the little ones to keep persisting.I felt like a great role model encouraging them. And my second favourite was taking photos at the end! The Adidas Fun Run was the BOMB!

Work of the Week - Week 10

This week the Avengers reading group read a School Journal story called Monsoon Flood. Taliai has used this text to write a set of instructions about how to stay safe in a flood.

HOW TO ESCAPE OF A FLOOD

Step 1: leave everything before you die and save yourself.

Step 2: Shout for help so someone can help you.

Step 3: Go to a safe place but a high place like a mountain or a place that's in our country.

Step 4: Instead of swimming and getting tired find something to grab on something and hoist on to it

T-shirts

Last week 6 students from the Kea team visited Roskill Youthzone to start their T-shirt designs. They learnt how to make effective stencils for the printing process. Watch this space for the finished designs next week...

Cookies!

On Friday Room 3 baked healthy cookies. They were delicious and would make a great addition to breakfast, morning tea or lunch! Who can remember the main ingredients?

Work of the Week - Week 9

This week we started looking at the food we eat and asking ourselves questions such as:
- How many calories are in this food?
- What are the ingredients in this food and where did they come from?
- What influences the choices we make about the food we eat?

We found a poem called 'Alphabet Stew' and created our own using only (or mostly) healthy food choices. Here is Alisi's poem (so far).

Must
Use healthy food only
Get to at least m

Should
Use capital letters for each line
Group lines into verse

Could
Use a different size, colour or bold to show the letters
Use interesting words

Alphabet Stew

Apples are so juicy,Bananas are so soft,Cucumbers are so hard,Durians are so yum and sometimes I have lots.

Eggplants don’t taste like egg at all,Fennel kind of looks like a ball,Grapes are so sweet like how my dad makes meat.

Haricot beans kind of look like rice,Iceberg lettuce doesn't always feel very nice.

Jerusalem artichoke looks like a pig,Kiwi fruits are so yummy in my body that is kind of big

Lemons are so sour,Melons are so huge do you want to try my stew I sure do.

Nectarines kind of look like a peach,Oranges look like a sun has just raised on the beach.

Pineapples are kind of sour and I like sing a pineapple song in the shower,Q

Work of the Week - Week 8

Another tournament day and another fantastic example of team work, sportsmanship and persistence.

Our touch team battled through four hard fought games (all decided by one try or tied) to make the play-off for third and fourth places. We had success and grabbed 3rd spot with a 3-0 win over our friends Owairaka.

Well done boys! Can anyone remember some tips we picked up to improve on the day?

Work of the Week - Week 4

This week we finished our stories for the 'League in Libraries' competition. Have a read of Mele's story about some of the Warriors. It has heaps of exciting events and a tense ending!

One super sunny Sunday Manu Vatuvei , Solomone Kata , Shaun Johnson , Konrad Hurrel and Ben henry decided to go have some lunch at Mcdonald's since they were really hungry after training. They promised to their coach they will be right on time. When they arrived at Mcdonalds they noticed something suspicious. There was a young man   following them the whole time BOOM!sirens were flashing,  people were screaming! ‘’Just a false a false alarm everybody! Shouted one of the employees. Phew!everyone  was so worried.

Anyways after that they decided to take a seat and have their lunch. Right across them was the same man stalking them!.When they walked out the man was still following them! They ran as fast as they could. They were like cheetahs ROAR! But it was too late….. The man had already caught them! He actually turned out to be a professional spy ! Dun Dun Dun!.......

Later on it was nearly time for the game and the man was still chasing them. Luckily they stopped at the Warehouse where Jennifer lawrence was waiting for them “Run to the Burger King restrooms where nobody can find you. So they ran to the Burger King restrooms when they saw a silhouette of a man. They were curious to know who it was. They thought it was the man but it wasn't. It turned out to  be…. Leonardo Dicaprio! and this is what he said ‘take a bus to rainbows end where there is nobody . It was 7:30 and the game started at 7:45.

Later on they were Rainbows end where there was nobody.Suddenly the man appeared from the back and zoom! They ran really fast and by really fast I mean really, really fast . It was 7:40. They used a random car from the street and KABOOM! They were off! When they got to Eden Park the man caught them! It turned out to be that he just wanted an autograph! So he wasn't that bad  he was trying to chase them the whole time just for one little autograph anyways after that they offered the man which name was greg free tickets to watch them. It was 7:44……

It was 7:44 so they ran as fast as flash to the field just in time lucky were already in their uniform. They made it just in time but the coach was quite cross but anyways they all had a fabulous game and celebrated by going to Kfc but this time there was no man chasing them so they lived happily ever after.THE END

Work Of The Week!

Welcome to 2016 in Room 3. Room 3 is now part of the Kea team. One new idea we are trying this term in the Kea team is 'Work Of The Week.' Each week we will post a piece of work that shows excellence. Please leave us some comments on the work or on any of our other blog posts.

This week's work is a kea shape poem by Nila:
